Experimental film. Shooting and editing. Self-Evaluation.

By 13:13

i am a terrible artist I know that ^^
While we were filming, me and Umor divided the DoP role between us, as he couldn't get to some locations that we were filming in. All the shots were planned either by me or Katherine (when we were doing her story) or Billie. (I will post a copy of my personal shot list later this week).

Cinematography

With DoP stuff i didn't do much research. It was more of he prep work: get the ideas sorted, get the shot list done and sketch some ideas for storyboard. Also me and Umor split our roles. He mainly did studio camera work as I was doing gaffering. And I did most of the location shooting.

Editing

When it came to editing we split our roles one more time. Billie was working on the edit of the rough cut and the general storyline editing. I was meant to be doing colour correction and title and credits sequences. After the tutorial we came up with an idea to keep our opening sequence really simple, so we chose some still clips that I could use for it.

basically in the upper half of the picture you can see the draft idea of what we decided to do.
still shot flashing on the screen introducing all 4 parts of the stories followed by the title.
And I was stuck to this idea.

When it came to the closing credits, I tried to cut diagonally as you can see on the picture below, but after trying I realised that there is not enough space for the text, so I decided to leave 4/4 split screen with 2 black parts for the text.

the planning process

this is the only screenshot i took, but here is the RGB curves work
and also you can partly see the layout that we took for our final credits

Colour correction

Nothing special here happened. My main goal was to correct clips and make then look watchable, as we didn't really have enough lighting on several sets. I mainly used RGB Curves and Three-Way Colour Correction.

Peer Assessment and Self Evaluation

I must admit that our group was really productive. We did have some communication issues but we resolved them later, as they all were connected with the stress. We did a really good job. And on peer assessment we decided that our job in general was close to even.

Personally I think I could've done more during production period. Even though my story does work within the piece, I am not really satisfied by it. It could've been much better. But I couldn't give 100% of me during production, because I was stressing out bc of personal projects. So that I gave all myself on post production: colour correction, titles and credits and some sound design (a tiny little bit).

I think we are learning from our mistakes every time we work within the group, so I guess the fact that we have managed to put out a good piece out there, collect all proper documents and not kill each other during the process tells you that we passed this teas and ready to challenge ourselves in the future. (I am saying this now, on Sunday at the end of the academic year. I will regret this when we will get our new 5 deadlines next year xD).
