Experimental sound pt2. The process.

By 06:27

I will start for the funny part. So I had my old personal Audition that I could use. I did some work in it right after I have recorded my sounds. Next day tried opening it and, guess what. It has died. I am so lucky. So to make my project I had to download a trial version of it. Luckily it's enough for now. Plus I started pressing Cmd+C every bloody second.

So here I will just type all the thought I had during editing, cause I literally noted every single one of them in my notebook, that was near me at that time.

  • So "ocean" was created out of the water faucet. That's exactly what I did in the first 15 minutes before downloading new Audition, so I have no screenshots of that, unfortunately, but all i did was basically playing with volume to create the movement of the waves. In the new project I added panning from left to right.

  • Ocean was interrupted by the Alarm on the phone, but I added some reverb on it. Right now I doesn't really sound as an alarm. More like a sound of a siren that notifies people about danger. And to be honest I decided to leave that, because let's be real, when alarm wakes us up it really does sound like a really loud and creepy siren, because it makes us to escape the world of our bed and dreams.
That the reverb that I used with the alarm sound

  • Shower sound was obviously adapted for more "showery sound" when I found suitable reverb effect. Plus I did the same with the sound of the music in the shower (cause we all do that xD).

And here I also played with different settings to make the sonf sound more 'wet' and part of a
house ambience.
  • Here is where the fun started. Street and coffee shop overlaid shower and moreover I decided to make them sound more weird and less definitive, because as we usually walk we don't pay much attention to what is going on around us. And the reason behind the overlay is one question: 'Do we actually remember every single routine morning trip to work?' I personally don't, but I can vaguely hear street, hear ambience, that's what important for our memory.

The reverb

I added gaps between typing iPhone, cause we do take pauses to think.
And as you can see I have overlaid coffee shop with the street.
  • Library ambient is not loud, because people while working people usually are fully immersed into their work and the ambient is just there. No one really hears what's going outside their world.
  • Reverbed 'party' part so that it sound more natural and more like a house living room, but then found the smokey bar reverb - perfect! Added some glass bottles clinking on the BG, and those were the ones I decided to sound dreamy. When people dink, a lot of them don't really pay attention to what and how much they consume.

  • I guess this is the last part. To finalise everything I added the ocean on the BG of the entire piece, so that there's an ambient all the time even if it's really quite and there is no awkward pauses with no sound at all. Plus it'll suit the whole idea of "Ocean of memories".

Self-assessment

I guess that's all about my Audition experience. I must admit that I did make some mistakes with technical stuff. I might have exported it with the wrong settings. I have worked with Audition before, but have never paid a lot of attention to the settings as I haven't been told to. At least now I know. Won't do that again. (Moreover I managed to kill my own Audition in the very beginning xD)

Time management wise it went much better and I really did enjoy the entire process, so that I managed to have some sort of a narrative and mixed all work into one piece.
