Maps & Networks. Step 1: Brainstorming and the ideas flow.
After researching Shirin Neshat I also found some artists that remake old and famous paintings. So i instantly thought about revisiting old paintings and do something with them.
And I found this. It's not eactly art, but for some reason it gave me the kick I needed. Even though now I know that won't do anything similar to this, I want to include this into research. The idea is briliant!

I was thinking about what exactly makes the topic about animals so important to me? Why do I care so much? Extinction! I recently became aware with the fact that starting from 16th century we, by we I mean humanity, lost over 850 different species. And we still continue to lose them. The worst part of this is that people are no aware and people also have no idea what kind of danger we put ourselves into by losing animals.
The greatest example of this is "Four Pests Campaign". Four Pests Campaign was one of the first actions taken in the Great Leap Forward in China from 1958 to 1962. The four pests to be eliminated were rats, flies, mosquitoes, and sparrows. The systematic extermination of sparrows led to an upset of the ecological balance, and enabled crop-eating insects to proliferate.
I started looking for some origami figures that were made by people.

But unfortunately for me, I thought about the most boring and popular idea that was around social networks several months ago. I thought about taking Mona Lisa and work with ideas of the new beauty standarts. But not only is this idea been used countless amount of times, but also it is really broad. What is a beauty standard? Who we count and a beauty standart? All these questions are perceived differently by everyone. So instead o stressing out on this idea, I realised that the real beauty that people nowadays see very rarely is nature and animals.
Animals became a real interest of mine lately this year, so I felt like I found the right direction and started brainstorming some ideas on this topic. My first google search was "cats in paintings". (Have no idea why cats xD).

The four pests to be eliminated were rats, flies, mosquitoes, and sparrows. The systematic extermination of sparrows led to an upset of the ecological balance, and enabled crop-eating insects to proliferate.
By April 1960, Chinese leaders realized that sparrows ate a large amount of insects, as well as grains. Rather than being increased, rice yields after the campaign were substantially decreased. Mao ordered the end of the campaign against sparrows, replacing them with bed bugs in the ongoing campaign against the Four Pests. By this time, however, it was too late. With no sparrows to eat them, locust populations ballooned, swarming the country and compounding the ecological problems already caused by the Great Leap Forward, including widespread deforestation and misuse of poisons and pesticides. Ecological imbalance is credited with exacerbating the Great Chinese Famine, in which at least 20 million people died of starvation.
We have no idea what can happen to us if one kind of any animal will disappear. So thinking about that, I started searching for information on extinct animals and threatened animals.
I obviously found the list of extinct animals on WWF website, but that's only for statistics and future productions of the peace. But I needed to find what I am going to do on the exhibition. While i was looking for more resources I found this amazing web-site:

Even though it's all coded, I kinda thought about physical origami. So yes, I will do a lot of paper animals. That's for sure.
I started looking for some origami figures that were made by people.
My first visualization was nice, but it didn't have the main meaning that I wanted this installation to have: the inevitability of distraction and danger to humanity if the main amount of animal species will disappear.
After tutorial.
I started thinking more. I put my thought more into the fact that I want to show the result that we might face. Now I visualize it differently, but I will be able to describe that during presentation and in the next post, when I make a miniature model of it.
